All Among the Pines

Little kid lost with the brackets and moss All along the woodlands O I left my home thought it fun to roam All among the pines Now the woodland birds whisper warning words All along the woodlands O "Keep a wary mind we're not all so kind" All among the pines Rattle and wail the branches Creep and crawl the vine All along the woodlands O All among the pines Off the path I strayed, now I feel mislaid All along the woodlands O I wish I had some thread or a loaf of bread All among the pines But I got my magic bonnet with the earmuffs on it All along the woodlands O And I can hear the advice of the badgers and mice All among the pines Rattle and wail the branches Tingle and chill the spine All along the woodlands O All among the pines Rattle and wail the branches Tingle and chill the spine All along the woodlands O All among the pines Will the nattering toads guide me to the road? All along the woodlands O Or will the wolf's bloodthirst catch up with me first? All among the pines I see a light ahead faintly glowing red All along the woodlands O Is that my mother dear standing oh-so-near? All among the pines Rattle and wail the branches Tingle and chill the spine All along the woodlands O All among the pines All among All among All among the pines

It doesn't run on fossil fuels By dirty energy it isn't fooled By winged Unicorns it is pulled: Your imagination It has no need of nuclear fission It doesn't wait for any permission It has very low carbon emissions: Your imagination You've got a green imagination Lots of other colours in there as well Predominantly green imagination Fresh as spring and clear as a bell Sometimes it doesn't make a lot of sense But I will say in your defense: It doesn't run at any expense: Your imagination It's full of colour and it's brightly lit I haven't yet seen every bit It's got bunny rabbits living in it: Your imagination You've got a green imagination Lots of other colours in there as well Predominantly green imagination Fresh as spring and clear as a bell It's a lean green mean creating machine It's a lean green mean creating machine It doesn't drive and it doesn't smoke It isn't littered with cans and pokes The only dirty things are the jokes In your imagination It's got credentials I can trust It never wears out and doesn't rust The whole thing runs on pixie dust: Your imagination You've got a green imagination Lots of other colours in there as well Predominantly green imagination Fresh as spring and clear as a bell Fresh as spring and clear as a bell It's a lean green mean creating machine It's a lean green mean creating machine

If your pockets are empty And your clothes are bland You could do worse than buy second hand Just direct your ill-shod feet To the charity shops on Nicolson Street Leave Waverley Station, cross the bridges, North and South Soon you'll be boggle-eyed with a gaping mouth There are second hand shops and first class places to eat You'll find all that on Nicolson Street You will find just what you seek If you walk the length of Nicolson Street Bare essentials or a treat You'll find just about anything on Nicolson Street Whether it's a walking cane or some running shoes A rare vinyl album from 1982 Stripey curtains or polka-dot bedsheets You'll find that thing on Nicolson Street A day out in Edinburgh with my man We lost track of each other, blowing all our plans i was about to admit defeat When I found him, half way down Nicolson Street You will find just what you seek If you walk the length of Nicolson Street Bare essentials or a treat You'll find just about anything on Nicolson Street You might meet your husband or your future wife Or stumble across the meaning of your life If you get on the number 3 and get off before Clark Street You might find yourself on Nicolson Street

Morningbird 03:22
Morningbird you're happy and I'm glad Morningbird you're happy, and I'm so very glad But you got me grieving for a life I've never had Morningbird look how you've grown Morningbird look how you have changed and you have grown You got me missing highs I've never known And I've looked high, and I've looked all around And I've looked low, and this is what I've found Morningbird, the dew is wet Morningbird the sun is up and the dew is wet You got me thinking of friends I've never met Morningbird, the air is chill Morningbird the walls are cracked and the air outside is chill I see you watching from my window sill And I've looked high, and I've looked all around And I've looked low, and this is what I've found I only ever looked, I never ever seen a thing I only ever looked, I never ever seen a thing Morningbird you're happy and I'm glad Morningbird you're happy, and I'm so very glad But you got me grieving for a life I've never had

about

Let me lead you on a merry dance through sun dappled Scots Pine woodland, in the company of a cast of wildlife, eccentrics and burger-flippers.

My thanks go out to: Falkirk Folk Club; all my Edinburgh, Aberdeen and Stirling friends too; it would be remiss not to mention my supportive family; of course, the Goddess; all the performers on this album; everyone who's helped along the way; Ian and Frankie for the use of their keyboard and piano respectively; Sam (for "mentoring"); Topher (for inspiration); and most of all Charlie, for boundless generosity and bountiful soup.

To all those who didn't quite make it onto this album - sorry! Next time, you won't get away so easily....
